An Intrauterine Device (IUD) is a little, t-shaped piece of plastic inserted into the uterus to provide birth control. At our office, we carry three different Intrauterine Devices: Paragard®, Mirena®, and Kyleena®.
When considering the wide variety of birth control options available to you, you may consider an Intrauterine Device. All of the IUDs that we offer have their own differences.
The main differences between the Paragard, Mirena, and Kyleena is that Paragard is non-hormonal while Mirena and Kyleena are hormonal releasing IUDs. Mirena and Kyleena are good for up to five years of pregnancy prevention and Paragard is good for up to ten years.
Along with any installation to the body, there can be risk. We encourage you to communicate with your healthcare provider while exploring avenues of birth control to choose the best option for you!
